The value of attending an institution with an accredited language program can not be emphasized enough. The accredited status shows that the school & its program lived up to the standards set by other language specialists and governing bodies. In addition, its reassures students that the language education they receive is reliable and of quality and value.
One of the larger accrediting bodies for language programs is the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). Functioning primarily as an accrediting organization for English as a Second Language programs (ESL), CEA is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. Along with the CEA, the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET) accredits institutions and language programs of all types.
The United States has six regional accrediting bodies as well:
- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
- North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
- New England Association of Schools and Colleges
- Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges
- Middle State Association of Colleges and Schools
